XDA Forum member Justin Case has come out with a rooting App for all Motorola devices. The MotoRoot developed by him will help you customize the your Moto X, as well as the entire Droid family, Droid MAXX, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini. Justin developed this App taking advantage of the second "Master Key" exploit in Motorola, which uses the signing key of a trusted App but installs the custom code to gain the read/write privileges. The Google being a hard taskmaster has fixed this exploit in latest update Android 4.3 Jelly Bean so this App and rooting method wont work if you have upgraded your Moto X, Droid MAXX, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini to Android 4.3.
But if you haven't than you should give this rooting App a try. It lets you customise your Motorola phones the way you want it. However do remember that rooting your phone will disable its warranty and in some circumstances, brick the phone.
First and foremost you have to download the carrier specific file.
Please do take care while selecting the file
The below files are for Moto X phone
The below files are for Motorola Droid MAXX, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini
Once you have download the files to your SD card follow the simple instructions below :
- Install it by typing:
'adb install -r motoroot.apk' (Note: filenames vary by device and carrier#). - Run the app on your device.
- Tap on the 'Setup' button and wait for the phone to reboot.
- Install SuperSU from the Play Store.
#Filename differs per firmware for example install MotoRoot-1-att.apk for AT&T, MotoRoot-1-vzw.apk for Verizon, etc. The -r paramenter is required if installing with adb
The rooting process developed by Justin is the simplest there is, if you like it kindly donate to his cause by sending your donations by PayPal to jcase@cunninglogic.com.
If you have any problems with the rooting you can opt for either
Unroot:
Two choices, factory reset, or press the unroot menu option in the app.
Reroot:
Run into a problem? try hittung unroot then re-rooting.
The SuperSu on Google Play has ot able to update su yet, this will be fixed in an update shortly. su is maintained in a ext4 img at /data/xbin.img and mounted over /system/xbin at BOOT_COMPLETE. su is not available for the first few seconds of boot.
